On June 19th, Elliot Deutsch Big Band spent the entire day at Capitol Records recording our new album. This was only possible thanks to the 73 supporters who generously pledged to our kickstarter campaign! We recorded 10 songs: Pure Imagination, The Push, Test Sample 6, Welcome to Zing Town, Drop Down (& Give Me a Zillion), Polkadots and Moonbeams, The Way You Look Tonight, Boarding Group 5, 50 Piece McChow Down, and the album Intro. The band was in top form, recording song after song with great feel and unmatched precision. Watch for the new record later in 2014! I'd like to extend a warm thank-you to all of the many people who came to our first show of the year on Valentine's Day weekend. The show was sold out! The energy in the room was electric... and the management at Vitello's took notice. Starting on March 29th, Elliot Deutsch Big Band will start a monthly residency. We will perform on the last Saturday of each month.

The band will premier Elliot's brand new composition "The Slide," as well as perform several pieces off of their upcoming 2014 album. This includes Deutsch's ASMAC/Bill Conti award winning arrangement of "Pure Imagination" and his ASCAP award winning composition "50 Piece McChow Down."
Elliot Deutsch has been elected to the board of directors of ASMAC (American Society of Music Composers and Arrangers). He is joining an elite group of arrangers and composers including Chris Walden (president), Kim Richmond (vice president), Van Alexander, Charles Fernandez, Larry Blank, Jeannie Pool, John Altman, Doug Besterman, Jorge Calandrelli, Ray Charles, Ian Freebairn-Smith, Larry Goldman, Chris Guardino, Dell Hake, Ira Hearshen, Bill Holman, Hummie Mann, Bonnie Janofski, Milton Nelson, Sylvester Rivers, Tim Simonec, and Duane Tatro. At 30 years old, Elliot is the youngest member of the board of directors in ASMAC's 75 year history.
In 2012, Elliot Deutsch received first place in ASMAC's annual big band arranging and composing competition. In January 2013, Elliot Deutsch Big Band performed at ASMAC's 75th anniversary celebration.
Elliot Deutsch has been honored with a 2013 ASCAP/Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award. He won the award in recognition of his submission 50 Piece McChow Down. Honorees were chosen through a national competition. Entrants has to be younger than 30.
